Nollywood Babes And Their Love For Edo Men

By: Patience Ihejirika, Evelyn Okoruwa on August 18, 2013 - 2:57am
Nollywood in the past few years has recorded a huge success in the area of marriage especially among the babes. Coincidentally, most of them found their heartthrobs in states other than their own. PATIENCE IHEJIRIKA and EVELYN OKORUWA take a look at the rush of the actresses for Edo men.
Ini Edo
Ini Edo met her husband during one of his trips to Nigeria.  One thing led to another and marriage talk began. It was alleged that she had fought many ladies before and after their wedding to stay off her man. Many still wonder how she was able to win Philips from his first marriage to Ruth Okoro.
Amidst all odds, Ini Edo got married to her US-based husband, Philip Ehiagwina in 2009 in the United States of America after their traditional marriage in 2008. However, tongues are currently wagging that the actress is under serious pressure by her in-laws.
According to Nigeriafilms.com, Ini Edo’s in-laws are not happy that the glamorous actress hasn’t given them a child after about four years of marriage. It was also revealed that her husband, who is based in the US, has of late not been regular in the country.
Ini Edo began her acting career in the year 2000, and has featured in more than 50 movies since that time. The Theatre Arts graduate of the University of Calabar hails from Akwa-Ibong State. She is a Glo ambassador and also recently turned producer with her hit movie ‘I’LL Take My Chances.’ She has a lot of endorsements deals and award winning movies to her credit.

Mercy Johnson
Like Few months before her wedding, there was a claim that her husband was happily married shortly before she showed up. Many people expected her to quit the relationship or give him some time to settle whatever he had with his ex-wife, but Mercy Johnson was not ready to let the Edo guy go. She insisted she was going to get married to him on the set date whether anyone liked it or not.
The drama between her husband and his ex-wife got so though that the Christian Women Association in Lagos urged the church not to carry on with the wedding plan and even threatened to disrupt the ceremony if it held. But not even their threat could stop the thespian from saying “I do” to her prince charming.
Amidst all the threats, rumour and uncertainty, Mercy Johnson still fulfilled her dream of adorning herself with the rich Edo cultural attire on her traditional marriage. She eventually got married to the prince and today, the union is blessed with a lovely baby girl, Purity.
Mercy Johnson made her acting debut in the movie, “The Maid” in which she played the role of a possessed house help. Her performance in the movie shot her into the limelight and she has acted in other movies ever since. She hails from Okene in Kogi state.  She was born in Lagos on August 28, 1984.
She won the 2009 African Film Award for best supporting actress.
Stephanie Okereke met her husband, Linus Idahosa in the film academy, Del-York.  It will be recalled that Okereke was married between 2004 and 2007 to a former Super Eagles football player ChikelueIloenyosi.  In 2012, a high court in Lagos declared the marriage null and void, because at the time th¬¬¬y got married, Chikelue was already legally married to another woman in the US.
In April 2012, the actress got married to Linus Idahosa in Paris, France, at a private wedding ceremony that was attended by members of her family and scores of Nollywood stars.
Okereke  was born 2 October, 1982. She has received several awards and nominations for her work as an actress, including the 2003 Reel Award for Best Actress, the 2006 Afro Hollywood Award for Best Actress, and three nominations for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the African Movie Academy Awards in 2005, 2009 and 2010. She was also the runner up for the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria beauty pageant of 2002.
Stephanie Okereke was born in Imo State, Nigeria. She graduated from the University of Calabar, with a degree in English and Literary Studies. Already during her teenage years in 1997 she starred in two Nollywood movies, Compromise 2 and Waterloo. Okereke has starred in over 90 movies

Angelina Jolie's Double Mastectomy: Surgeon Says Actress "Waited to Find the Perfect Timing"

Los Angeles Magazine, Dr. Kristi FunkLos Angeles Magazine
Angelina Jolie inspired countless women when she announced she had a preventative double mastectomy, and now her doctor is opening up about the 38-year-old star's bold decision.
Dr. Kristi Funk of the Pink Lotus Center isfeatured on the cover of the September issue of Los Angeles magazine, in which she discusses Jolie's brave choice to share her story and the impact it had on the world.
"She is intensely private, but she calculated the moment when she would be ready to reveal something so personal," Funk, who performed Angelina's surgery, says of the stunning star (as reported by People).
She adds the mother of six "waited to find the perfect timing in her personal and professional life, but I think most importantly in her soul," before Brad Pitt's partner penned her op-ed for the New York Times.
In the deeply personal piece, Jolie revealed she underwent a preventive double mastectomy in February after doctors discovered she carried the "'faulty' gene" BRCA1 and had roughly an 87 percent risk of contracting breast cancer.
She also shared how she was told she has approximately a 50 percent risk (the actual number varies based on the individual) of developing ovarian cancer, and People later reported Angelina's plans to have her ovaries removed.

In addition to discussing Angie's decision, Dr. Funk notes that breasts are a part of woman's identity, which is why Jolie—who has always been admired for her beauty—touched so many women who are struggling with the surgery.
"When someone who is arguably the most beautiful woman in the world removes the part of her body that is symbolic of femininity and sexuality, you have to say, 'Why would she do that?'" Funk explains.
Jolie's mother, Marcheline Bertrand, lost her battle to ovarian cancer in 2007 at the age of 56, and the mother of six wrote it's "reassuring" for her children to know they won't lose their mother to the disease.
And while it was Angie's choice to go public with a very private part of her life, Dr. Funk says the inspirational star couldn't deny her inherent desire to help others.
"She knew always that in her philanthropic core she couldn't keep this a secret and be who she is," Funk tells L.A. mag.
"I feel great, I feel wonderful, and I'm very, very grateful for all the support," the actress told reporters at her first red carpet appearance post-surgery. "It's meant a lot to me."
She added: "I've been very happy just to see the discussion about women's health expanded, and that means the world to me. And after losing my mom to these issues, I am very grateful for it. And I've been very moved by the support of people."

Glo X Factor: More Shock As DNA Twins Kiss The Dust

By: Solomon Nda-Isaiah on August 18, 2013 - 2:46am
Everyone gathered to witness the second eviction night of debut music talent show Glo X Factor. But no one foresaw the surprise; the eviction of Clinton and Blair Roberts, better known as the DNA Twins. It was heart-breaking for many who witnessed one of the show’s favourites kiss the dust of eviction.
Following their eviction, the handsome duo thus became the second act to leave the X Factor show. Last week, the group Smooth Boiz bid the show goodbye, after they had been nominated for eviction alongside Eshum after the representative of Alexander Forbes handed over a black envelope containing the result of the previous week’s votes to Toolz, the show presenter.
The exit of DNA was also not without drama. The crowd at the recording studio were stunned when Toolz announced that DNA and Ghanaian sensation, Eshum, were among the bottom two. The two acts had, all along, done very well in the competition and not many expected them to be in the bottom two.
While the 17-year-old twins lost out to Eshum, who had two of the judges – Onyeka Onwenu and M.I – to thank for saving and keeping her in the show, DNA could only find favour with Ghanaian hip-life star, Reggie Rockstone: Thus, ended the twins’ dream of winning the competition’s N24million prize money and Sony Music International’s recording deal.
Onwenu caused a stir when she had asked to be allowed to vote last after Rockstone had voted for the DNA Twins. Her request was declined. Before making her decision known, she called on the viewers to vote more, as it became obvious that the two contestants were very talented but only made the bottom two, because they did not record sufficient votes.
“I will like to appeal to people out there to vote more for these contestants; talent is not enough, they need to garner more votes to stay on,” the music icon said. She went ahead to vote to save Eshum. Onwenu’s vote led to a stalemate, leaving M.I to decide who stayed and who left.
“This is a very tough decision for me, as both contestants are talented. But one thing I have to ask myself is: should any of these guys go ahead to win the competition, which of the two contestants can be said to possess the X Factor? That is it. And in my judgment, Eshum possesses that X Factor!” said M.I, sealing the fate of the twins.
Before the judges’ decision, the two acts sang for survival and they wowed the judges, as well as the appreciative audience inside the Dream Studio in Omole, Lagos.
In a chat with Toolz, after their eviction, DNA thanked all their fans for the support and commended Globacom for providing the X Factor platform. They considered it an achievement to have gotten to the stage at which they were evicted. On her part, an elated Eshum thanked God, the judges and the viewers for their unflinching support.
The exit of DNA brought back memories of the near-eviction of one of the outstanding performers, Vicky, two weeks ago. She was in the bottom two along with Smooth Boiz and it took the intervention of the judges to keep her in the show.
“This is not the end for us, as we are going to use this platform to build on our musical dream. People should look out for us in the near future,” the duo boasted.
They said Glo had through X Factor given them a platform which has projected them to national and international audience. “We were disappointed that we have been evicted, but we believe everything happens for a purpose. We believe that God who brought us thus far has a plan for us. For us, anything is possible now,” Clinton said.
“We want to tell Nigerians, Africans wherever you are, watch out for DNA. Don’t be surprised to see us doing a song with P-Square,” Blair added.
Blair and Clinton Robert turned 17 on June 16. The twins come from a polygamous family of 13 children and attended Madonna Model Secondary School, Owerri, Imo State. They had just finished writing their final exams when the X Factor audition started and they decided to participate at the Abuja auditions.
As has become the tradition with the X Factor Result Show, Glo had arranged for one of its music ambassadors to entertain the audience at the studio, to calm their tensed nerves before the results of voting were announced. Rap artiste and 10 over 10 singer Naeto C, was the choice of the evening. He lived up to the hype, too. The Storm Records/Curious Music act, spotting a dark T-shirt over military fatigue pants, came on stage to perform his hit song, I Gentle, which whetted the audience’s appetite ahead of a great evening.
The previous two editions of the Result Show had seen new sensation Burna Boy and alternative-soul singer Bez entertain the audience.
X Factor Result Show is shown on Friday on AIT (5pm), STV (8:30 pm), V Channel (7pm), Soundcity (8:30pm) and AMC (7pm) and on Saturday at 5:30pm on NTA and NTA International and WAP TV, at 6pm on ONTV and Real Stars and at 6:30pm on Kennis Music and 8:30pm on TV Continental.
Viewers can watch the remaining seven contestants perform for public votes at 7pm. on Saturday on AIT and Soundcity and on STVAMC and V Channel at 8pm. The performance show is also broadcast on Sundays on NTA and NTA International at 5pm, WAP TV at 6pm, ONTV and Real TV at 7pm as well as on TVC at 8:30pm and Kennis Music at 9:30pm.
Members of the public can vote for their favourite contestant by sending the contestant’s voting number via SMS to 33680 from Nigeria and 1739 from Ghana.
The contestants’ voting numbers are Eshum 501, Ankara Boi 502, Vicky 503, DJ Switch 504, Pheel 505 and Princess Pat 506.
Following the eviction, the remaining contestants are raising the bar in their effort to woo public votes.
Announcing the theme for the evening’s performance on Saturday, show host, Toolz, stated that contestants would be singing soundtracks from the judges’ favourite movies.
The first contestant to come on stage was Ankara Boi who sang the song, Kiss from a Rose from the movie Batman. Looking like the Nigerian version of Batman in his black flowing gown, flanked by two dancers also dressed in black, he serenaded the audience with his soothing voice. And even though Reggie and Onyeka felt that he did a good job, MI believed that the song could have been better performed.
DJ Switch came on stage afterwards and she practically electrified the stage. Singing Listen from the movie Dream Girls, she gave a powerful rendition that saw the audience punctuating her delivery with intermittent applause. Also adding a touch of spice to the song with a rap medley, she was greeted with a standing ovation by the Dream Studio audience.
The young lady was in tears as Onyeka showered her with accolades, and Reggie saying prophetically, “You are going to win this show!”
