Some of these celebrities have tried to work together in the past.
The Nigerian music lover certainly can’t wait to see some of the best Nigerian acts collaborate on a track. From marketing reasons to non-agreement of appearance fee and other personal reasons, music fans have been eluded from listening to these anticipated music collaborations. PREMIMUMTIMES’s Michael Abimboye takes a look at the 10 most anticipated music collaborations.
1) Wizkid – Davido
This is certainly a duet pop music lovers can’t wait to hear. A track by both acts would have been on Davido’s OBO album, but due to a beef between both acts, the collaboration couldn’t take place. Now that the two are in good terms, coupled with the fact that both acts are young, label Head, successful and leaders of the next generation of musicians, lovers of Nigerian pop hope that the much anticipated Davido-Wizkid collaboration will be heard soon.
2). Femi Kuti and Lagbaja
You don’t know what they have in common? Well, Femi Kuti and the masked one, Lagbaja play the saxophone. But apart from that, lovers of good music, conscious music yearn for a track that features the Afro beat king and the masked one. With several hits and local and international awards in the bags of both top acts, a track from both will sure be a hit and award winning.
3). Orezi – Haykem The dream
Oh, you weren’t expecting to see this? A track between Orezi and Lamba master, Haykem the Dream, is one music lovers want to see materialize. Not only do both acts look alike, their unique voices almost sound alike and one might mistake a song from Orezi to be Haykems’. But who will make the move between the two acts is another issue.
4). Davido and Wande Coal
We missed the opportunity to listen to a track with both acts on it when Davido released his successful debut O.B.O album as both acts couldn’t reach an agreement over appearance fee. Can we get the chance to have both acts on the same track in Wande’s Second album or in Davido’s next album?
5). D’Banj and WizKid
The Eja Nla himself and WizKid on the same track is a sure banger. Both acts enjoy a huge fan base and are loved across Africa and the world at large. Rumour has it that a track on Wizkid’s second studio album features D’Banj. Whether that is true will be revealed when the album drops later in the year.
6). Praiz and BankyW
X3music’s Praiz, and EME boss, BankyW, are very good friends. In fact, Praiz mentioned BankyW’s name more than 5 times during his last interview with PREMIUM TIMES. Although we cannot categorically say if any track on Praiz’s debut album features the acclaimed R&B king, Banky, but it’s a sure bet a track on the album might feature BankyW.
7). Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay
Sexy singers, Tiwa and Seyi Shay, came into the scene courtesy flyTyme Promotions before Tiwa decided to pitch her tent with her own imprint 323 and Mavin Records. With the rising profile of Seyi and an established Tiwa, a track featuring two of Nigeria’s sexy and beautiful singers is a sure hit.
8). Flavour and Phyno
This writer doesn’t understand Igbo but this list won’t be complete without the inclusion of collaboration between Flavour-Phyno. The emergence of Phyno as an Igbo-lingo rapper and the Pop- High life music of Flavour would be sweet to the heart of those who understand Igbo language. We might just have the chance to listen to this track on Phyno’s debut album.
9). PSquare and D’Banj
Imagine D’Banj in place of Paw-Paw in PSquare’s latest video, personally? Well, a track between Psquare and D’Banj is long overdue. Both are international super stars with various endorsement and international music deals. So what’s stopping the two or the three from working on a track? We don’t know. But whenever the collaboration materializes, be ready to listen to a banger and perhaps, record breaking song.
10) Omawumi and Waje
The sisters make it to the list again. This time, a track between Omawumi and Waje is it. Powerful singers, both musicians are also ambassadors to telecom company, Glo.
11). M.I and Mode 9
The rap fans must have been waiting for this track. Rap lord, Mode 9, and the acclaimed rap king, M.I, are yet to feature on a track. While fans are yearning for this track, it doesn’t look like fans will listen to a track featuring both rap lords. Expect a lot of word play, punch line, metaphor whenever this anticipated duet materializes.
