Falana vows to sue Lagos government over ‘illegal repartriation’
By Wale Odunsi on September 14, 2013
Lagos lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), on Friday disclosed that he was set to sue the Lagos State Government for “illegal repatriation of Nigerians”.
He said it was unfortunate that the state governor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), gave such directive.
The legal luminary who spoke at the 80th birthday celebration of elder statesman and eminent jurist, Dr Tunji Braithwaite, insisted that there was no constitutional backup for the action of the Fashola-led government.
Falana further expressed sadness over the high rate of illiterate children in Nigeria.
He chided the ruling class for being irresponsible and seemed not to know what to do with the nation’s treasury as entrusted to them by the electorate.
The human rights crusader described kidnapping as the most lucrative business ever in the country, adding that “When you lose monopoly of violence to criminals, then there is trouble.”
He advised President Goodluck Jonathan to take the menace of corruption ravaging the country more seriously, so that the masses can feel the gains and impact of a democratic rule.
