4 Dead as Robbers Engage Police in Gun Battle in Ogun!

4 suspected armed robbers were on Tuesday killed by men of the Ogun State Police Command during a fierce gun duel at Odan Abuja near Igbesa in Ado Odo Otta Local Government Area.
The spokesman of the police in Ogun State, Muyiwa Adejobi who confirmed the incident disclosed to Street Journal that the gun battle started around 10.45 pm after a SARS (Special Anti Robbery Squad) team led by SP Ahmed Tijani, acting on intelligence, engaged the armed robbers in their hideout at Igbesa. Adejobi disclosed that while 4 of the robbers fell to the superior firepower of the police, some of them escaped with bullet wounds.
According to the police spokesman, intelligence gathering has revealed that the same set of robbers were those who killed 4 members of Vigilante Service of Ogun State at Onihale in Ifo Local Government area  of Ogun State some weeks back; and had also been fingered in the killing of a policeman attached to the SARS in Lagos State recently.
A Nissan Sunny car with registration number JJJ 106 BE, one pump action gun loaded with cartridges, one Ghanaian made double barrelled pistol loaded with two live ammunition, five expended cartridges, one AK 47 magazine loaded with 20 live ammunition, two unregistered Bajaj motorcycles and assorted charms were recovered from the robbers.
In another development, the mobile policemen attached to the Armoured Personnel Carrier in Ibara Abeokuta arrested a suspected armed robber while another escaped.  The policemen intercepted an unregistered Ford Bus conveying some suspected armed robbers at Akin Olugbade area of Abeokuta around 10/50 am on Thursday
A police Sergeant in the team, Lawal Garba, who joined a motorcycle in order to give them a hot chase gallantly  fired at the said vehicle severally before he could demobilise the vehicle.
The commissioner of Police Ogun State, Mr Ikemefuna Okoye has directed that the fleeing robbers in Igbesa and Abeokuta respectively be arrested within 24 hrs. He also appealed to the general public to see the operation as a collective one in a bid to flush out hoodlums from Ogun State.
