Nigeria: Oil Theft - EFCC Detains 11 Locals, One Cameroonian

Yenagoa — Eleven Nigerians and a Cameroonian are now in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) net in Yenagoa,
Bayelsa state for alleged involvement in the stealing of 10,000 liters of illegally refined Diesel off the waterways of the Egweama Community of Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The suspects were arrested and handed over to the EFCC by the Central Naval Command based in Yenagoa. The Naval authorities identified the Cameroonian suspect as the Captain of the seized vessel used by the suspected oil thieves to convey the product. The Vessel was identified as MV Sea Giant and was said to have no Ship log, the NPA bunkering Permit and Certificate of Registration issued by the Joint Military Task Force code named Operation Pulo Shield.
Presenting the suspects at the weekend to the EFCC, the Operation Officer, Central Naval Command, Commodore Emmanuel Enemor, said though the suspects claimed the petroleum products on the vessel was for running of machine, the laboratory sample showed that the product was illegally refined Automotive Gasoline Oil (AGO).
He said the vessel was arrested off the entrance of Brass River on the 16th of May, 2013, by the Nigerian Navy Patrol Team, adding that the MV Sea Giant operates under the business name and license of MOEN Marine Limited located in Victorial Island in Lagos.
Enemor said that the Captain confessed during interrogation that the vessel came from Lagos to load AGO from a Barge at Agbara offshore.
