(AllHipHop News) In 2012 Jay Z added another line to his impressive resume when he took on the role of curator for the Made In America Festival. The first annual event was captured on film by Oscar-winning director Ron Howard, and now a documentary about the festival is set to debut at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. The movie was co-produced by Jay Z, Steve Stoute, and Brian Grazer.
“This will not be a concert film,” Howard told AllHipHop.com in 2012. “It’s a reflection of the fabric of what it means to be Made in America – what the festival represents, why Jay is doing it and how he relates to each artist.”
“Made in America is the soundtrack to pursuing your passion, excelling at your craft, being authentic and embracing cultural diversity,” added Stoute. “It’s the tapestry that ignites new ideas and brings us all closer together. That’s what we’re setting out to accomplish with this festival and film.”
The first Made In America featured performances from Jay, Rick Ross, Drake, Jay Electronica, Run-DMC, and a surprise closing night set from the G.O.O.D. Music crew.
The 2013 edition of the Philadelphia fest is scheduled for August 31 - September 1. The line-up includes Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, Schoolboy Q, A$AP Rocky, Wiz Khalifa, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Miguel, Public Enemy, Solange, and Emeli Sandé.
The Toronto International Film Festival will take place September 8-18.
